Some people take life’s challenges and turn them into stepping stones toward something greater. Kyzia is one of those extraordinary individuals. Having survived a near-fatal car crash at just three years old, Kyzia has spent every day since fighting to overcome obstacles with a determination that inspires all who meet her. From battling educational struggles to becoming a powerful voice for the disability community, she is a true testament to resilience, faith, and the power of a positive mindset. Kyzia often reminds those around her that with God, all things are possible. She believes that joy can be shared with a simple smile—or perhaps with a touch of pink, her signature color. Her journey is a shining example of how embracing who you are, even in the face of adversity, can lead to a life filled with purpose and passion.
Overcoming the Odds
Kyzia’s early years were marked by significant challenges. The aftermath of her accident left her struggling with memory and cognitive hurdles that made school particularly difficult. Despite years of speech therapy and an uphill battle with academics, she never let those struggles define her. One of her proudest achievements was passing the math portion of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (T.A.K.S) exam by a single point—a victory she attributes to her unwavering faith and perseverance. That one point wasn’t just a test result; it was proof that determination and prayer could push her past any barrier.
A Heart for the Disability Community
Life took another unexpected turn when Kyzia fell in love with a man who was paralyzed from the waist down. Though the relationship ended, it ignited a deep passion in her heart for the disability community. Her firsthand experiences opened her eyes to the daily struggles wheelchair users face, and instead of walking away, she leaned in. During the pandemic, her ex started a YouTube channel, The Heart of Texas to help individuals in wheelchairs find accessible activities and destinations. When his interest in the project faded, Kyzia’s only grew stronger. She took the reins and now runs The Heart of Texas herself, tirelessly working to make businesses and public spaces more wheelchair-friendly. Her ultimate dream To transform The Heart of Texas into a nonprofit that will provide greater support, advocacy, and opportunities for the disability community.
Ms. Texas 2025: A Platform for Change
Kyzia’s commitment to advocacy didn’t stop with
The Heart of Texas. Now holding the title of Ms. Texas 2025, she uses her platform to educate, inspire, and advocate for inclusivity. Her mission is clear: to help those without disabilities learn, care for, and uplift those who live with them.
She dreams of a future where accessibility is not an afterthought but a fundamental right. From sidewalks to businesses, transportation to entertainment venues, she envisions a world where wheelchair users never have to question whether they can navigate a space with ease. She hopes to work alongside mayors, legislators, business owners, and city planners to bring about lasting change.
