Some people leave footprints on our hearts so deep that their light never truly fades. Rebecca Hinds was one of those rare souls whose energy, drive, and inspiration will live on forever. On February 15, 2025, at the age of 24, Rebecca gained her angel wings, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, joy, and unwavering spirit. Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we also celebrate the incredible life she lived—a life filled with purpose, adventure, and love.
Rebecca was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. She is survived by her devoted parents, Alaine and Greg; her cherished siblings, Luke and Sarah (Thomas); her faithful cat, Merlin; and a community of friends who adored her. To know Rebecca was to witness strength wrapped in warmth, determination laced with kindness, and a spirit that refused to be defined by limitations.
A Life Lived Without Limits
Rebecca never let her differences hold her back. Though she faced significant hearing and vision challenges, as well as a motor impairment, she embraced life with an unstoppable enthusiasm. Her wheelchair, always decorated to reflect the season, holiday, or special event, was a testament to her vibrant personality and love for celebration. Her impact stretched far and wide. She volunteered tirelessly, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army during the holidays, and she was a passionate advocate for individuals with special needs, even testifying in Austin to bring about meaningful change. She was an athlete at heart, competing in Special Olympics swimming and Challenger baseball, and she found immense joy on horseback, proudly participating in the Top Hands Horse Show.
A Crown Worthy of a Queen
Rebecca's achievements and accolades were many, each a reflection of her boundless spirit. In 2021, she received the Great Motivator Award from the Deaf-Blind Multi-Handicapped Association of Texas (DBMAT), recognizing her unwavering determination and ability to inspire. Most recently, she was crowned a 2024 Miss Texas Royalty Queen with The Dash Gordon Foundation—an honor that reflected not only her regal heart but also her lifelong mission to uplift and empower others.
Her story of resilience will forever be enshrined on the Texas Children's Hospital NICU Wall of Hope, ensuring that generations to come will learn from her example and draw strength from her journey.
Dancing Through Life
Music was the rhythm of Rebecca’s soul. Whether jamming out with friends or showcasing her legendary skills on the maracas, she found endless joy in movement and song. She showed us all the power of embracing the moment, dancing through life no matter the challenges, and lifting others up along the way. If Rebecca were here today, she would tell us to turn up the music, shake our maracas, and celebrate every beautiful moment life has to offer.
